Cautions
Results of Dyslexia Analysis will not be accurate if the primary problem
is physical, mental, emotional, or due to second language proficiency.
For this reason, it is absolutely necessary to make certain vision, hearing,
health, emotional stability, intelligence, and language dominance have
been eliminated as causes before considering a dyslexia label. Areas
to be considered before applying the checklist include:
-
Vision
-
Hearing
-
Language dominance
-
Intelligence
-
Emotional stability
-
Maturity
The child must be old enough to provide reading, writing, and spelling
samples for assessment. Authors of Dyslexia Analysis recommend using
the checklists with ages seven through thirteen.
The results provided by Dyslexia Analysis can only be as accurate
as the responses to the questions. Usually, the child's teacher is the
best source of accurate information. Therefore, it is essential that
you be very familiar with the student and his/her attributes. Guesses or
misinformation will result in inaccurate results.
Checklist modules are based on the frequency of behaviors. For
example, in the reading module, you will be asked to assess how often a
behavior occurs during approximately ten different reading observations.
Frequency of behaviors for spelling, handwriting, language, and organization
also require several observations and work samples.
