Introduction to Dyslexia Analysis

In the late 1980's Barbara Frandsen, Director of Field Experiences in the School of Education at St. Edward's University, and Sharon Smith, a special education teacher, created a screening checklist for elementary teachers and others to use when assessing the characteristics of dyslexia and related disorders. Dyslexia Analysis is the web based implementation of the checklist. Dyslexia Analysis's Internet implementation allows teachers from all over the world to benefit from the checklist.

Checklist questions are designed to be answered by a teacher or homeschool parent who is very familiar with a child's learning behavior.  Responses are based on observations and samples of the child's work.  Checklists usually work best with children ages seven through thirteen.

At the end of some checklist questions, teaching ideas and modifications may be suggested. Each suggestion is linked to the steps involved in using the strategy..

Dyslexia Analysis is based on a rule system. The user enters the required information in a web-based form. This information is then processed by the application and converted to a numerical result determined by the rule system. The numerical value is translated into a message and displayed in html format viewable in any web browser.
